Meet Ashmita Mahato, one of 6° Wildlife Guide Graduates

Hello and Namaste!

I am Ashmita Mahato from Sauraha, Nepal.

When I was 2 years old, my father was killed by a tiger, after which my mom remarried, and I was taken to an orphanage. That’s where I grew up. Now, I am 21 years old, studying management and working as a wildlife nature guide.

I became a guide with help from an organisation called 6 Degrees Academy for Women. I came to know about them through Sapana Village Social Impact (SVSI), which is a local NGO that strives to improve our community, and they too were a part of my success.

At first, I didn’t really want to go into the jungle. I was afraid of the animals, but when we were provided the chance, I learned that not all animals are dangerous and they attack humans out of protection.

Before I got to know 6 Degrees, I was jobless and it was hard for me to pay my college fees and make ends meet. Becoming a wildlife nature guide changed my life completely and has made me independent. I see my future brighter and clearer now, and I feel proud that I can do something on my own.

My aim is to be a good wildlife guide and wildlife photographer. I'd like to thank 6 Degrees, Sapana Village Social Impact, and all my teachers for supporting my independence and helping me to solve my problems.
