Nepal Research Trip
In October 2017, Debbie and Gita, the founders of 6° Academy for Women, visited several places in Nepal together with their 2 eldest sons - Ties and Milan.
During this trip, we met with different NGO's and talked to many people from different villages as part of our research to identify potential local partners and candidates. We interviewed women on what they would be interested in learning as vocational skills, given the opportunity and choice.
What we found was that many women want to learn new skills and are very motivated to do so, even skills traditionally held by men, but that they often lack the opportunity to do so.
Once back in the Netherlands and having taken the time to digest all that we learned on this trip, we decided to focus our first pilot project on teaching women in Kathmandu how to become drivers and then help them find employment in a safe environment.
We are currently busy getting everything set up so that we can start raising funds and launch our first project in early 2018.
